All Souls Day: What the Ancestors Know

Imagine for a moment you are outdoors breathing in the beauty of a star-filled night sky. As you marvel at the vastness of the Universe, imagine that the stars slowly fade into faces, the faces of your ancestors, the people whose blood courses through your veins and the people who were folded into and adopted into your lineage. Ones you know personally, ones you heard about or saw pictures of and countless ones whose stories stretch back to the beginning of time.

See the sky become a giant movie screen, reflecting back to Earth the stories of your people as they experience it all: devasting grief and playful laughter, mind-blowing cruelty and loving tenderness, paralyzing fear and boundless courage. Watch as the ancestor stars live through wars, plagues, famines and societal collapse. In the expansiveness of the sky, see the expansiveness of the human story and our small place in it now.

What do your familial, cultural and spiritual ancestors want you to know? Ask them. Then pause and listen.

What do they notice as they watch your life unfold? Again: ask, pause and listen.

This is a meditation reflection you can do on your own or join us for an hour online as we guide you through a visualization, journaling / reflection time, and a chance to hear from other participants doing the same exercise.

As this turbulent election season winds down, we hope it is grounding for you to feel held in the light of the most wise and loving ancestors, and to know you can be that light for next generations.

Truly,

Carolyn Kolovitz
