Affirming Life
Earlier this autumn, several of our weekly classes were inspired by Laura Shannon’s article How Traditional Dances Teach Us to Celebrate Life Even in Difficult Times. The article gives four wonderful examples about how dancing helps us cultivate resilience, connection, creativity, and love.
In one of the dances featured in the article, we draw a little circle with our right foot. That small gesture became so much more than a little circle to me. It became a way to encompass all of life. The high of summer and depth of winter, birth and death, humanity’s best and worst, were all contained in that circle. Repeating that gesture every 8 bars became a touchstone for me, affirming that a much larger Divine Mystery encompasses our lives.
Looking ahead to our Winter Solstice Celebration, I am inspired to continue creating space for us to affirm life in the midst of our darkest season.
The candlelight and beautiful music from Greg Herriges always make our Winter Solstice Celebration one of my favorite nights of the year. This year our space is quite intimate and space is limited – make sure to register to secure your spot!
May this dark season help you kindle your inner light; you light is a blessing the world is hungry to receive!
